Amarnath Yatra

The Amarnath Yatra is a Hindu pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave, located in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The cave is located at an altitude of 3,888 m (12,756 ft) above sea level. Every year, thousands of people undertake this arduous journey on foot from all over states of India and even abroad.

The pilgrimage begins every year on the second day after Shravan Purnima (Shravana Poornima) which falls in July–August and ends on Kartik Purnima (Kartik Poornima) which occurs between October–November each year. During this time period people are allowed to visit Lord Shiva’s abode only for three days during which they can have a darshan from 1 am to 5 pm only during respective days.
